Rapid revenue growth with high-tech and manufacturing-focused logistics lands company's first ranking on Silicon Valley Business Journal's annual Fast Private 50 list

RK Logistics Ranked 22nd Fastest Growing Private Company in California's Silicon Valley

RK Logistics Group, the Silicon Valley's leading provider of third-party logistics (3PL) services, announced that it was ranked the 22nd fastest growing private company by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The company was honored at a recent dinner in which the publication announced its Fast Private 50 list, which ranked private companies in the Silicon Valley by revenue growth between 2014 and 2016.

Rod Kalune, RK's founder and chief executive officer, noted that the ranking represented growth of some 70 percent over the period and was attributable to the company's success providing its "3PL+" brand of service to Silicon Valley customers.

"We're pleased to be ranked as one of the Silicon Valley's fastest growing private companies," Kalune said. "We have focused on being an innovator and trusted provider of comprehensive logistics for our customers, delivering efficient, responsive, high-quality solutions that high tech and global companies require. It's a testament to the value and personal attention to detail our employees provide every day."

RK's services include the Silicon Valley's only general use Foreign Trade Zone, providing secured warehousing, computerized inventory management for parts, components and finished goods, and light manufacturing such as pre-assembly and kitting.

RK Logistics also is a California Board of Pharmacy-certified 3PL, which means the company's facilities and operations meet or exceed the state's requirements for handling medical devices, controlled substances and sensitive diagnostic equipment for pharmaceutical and high-value biomedical device firms. In addition, the company is a leader in robotics-assisted order picking and fulfillment technologies, and creating industry-specific programs, such as parts sequencing parts for lean production lines and just-in-time (JIT) delivery programs.

RK Logistics Group has over 500 employees with 14 supply chain operations in the San Francisco Bay Area representing over 800,000 square feet of customizable warehousing and order fulfillment capacity.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.
