Westfalia Technologies to Highlight New Firefly Fault Recovery Visualization Tool at ProMat 2017

York, Pa. - Westfalia Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of logistics solutions for manufacturers and distributors since 1992, will showcase its latest warehouse automation technology at booth #S1238 at ProMat 2017. During the event, Westfalia will highlight its new fault recovery visualization tool, Firefly. Westfalia will also host two educational seminars, "AS/RS & Automated Layer Picking Systems: A Robust Robotic Combination" and "Preparing To Automate: How to Evaluate Your Operations." ProMat will take place April 3-6 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Westfalia developed Firefly as part of its Savanna.NET® WES application suite. Firefly provides a three-dimensional (3D), augmented view of the warehouse, inventory and automated systems managed by Savanna.NET® to help facilities run more efficiently and recover from automation faults more quickly. Utilizing an interactive, drag-and-drop user interface, Firefly translates user screen interactions with back-end commands to greatly simplifying the fault recovery process. In addition, Firefly runs on virtually any device, which gives companies the ability to view and manage their inventories from anywhere in the world, provided that they have the authorization to connect to their facility server and the Savanna.NET® WES application.

Dave Williams, director of software development, Westfalia Technologies, said, "The ability to recover from faults quickly is imperative for automated facilities. Firefly greatly reduces the time needed to identify and recover from issues and increases efficiency throughout the facility."

Westfalia's first seminar at ProMat 2017, entitled "AS/RS & Automated Layer Picking Systems: A Robust Robotic Combination," is to be hosted by Account Executive Aaron Corcoran and is scheduled to occur from 10: 30 - 11: 15 a.m. (CT) on Monday, April 3 in Theatre I. During this seminar, attendees will hear from Cimcorp's Derek Rickard and a representative from Sargento Foods, Inc., a Westfalia customer, to learn about the benefits of integrating an automated layer picking system with an AS/RS.

Westfalia's second ProMat educational seminar, entitled "Preparing To Automate: How to Evaluate Your Operations" and also hosted by Corcoran, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, in Theatre E from 12: 00 - 12: 45 p.m. (CT). During this seminar, attendees will interact with two of Westfalia's customers, Sargento Foods, Inc. and the Breakthru Beverage Group to discuss the process of properly evaluating your operations prior to implementing an AS/RS.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
