Cargomatic names two logistics industry veterans to key leadership roles

Chuck Oeleis and Meaghan Diem to lead Cargomatic's sales efforts in expanding "sharing economy" to local trucking

VENICE, CA, March 24, 2016 -- Cargomatic, the innovative technology platform that matches shippers and truckers, today announced two key appointments to help the company continue to bring the "sharing economy" model to the $82 billion local U.S. trucking industry.

Cargomatic co-founders Jonathan Kessler and Brett Parker named Chuck Oeleis as Executive Vice President of Sales, responsible for building and managing all of Cargomatic's sales efforts. Meaghan Diem joins Cargomatic as Vice President of Enterprise Sales, assigned to focus on growing Cargomatic's large-volume client base.

"I am thrilled that Chuck and Meaghan have joined the Cargomatic team. Their wealth of experience across the logistics, transportation, and supply chain sectors will greatly benefit Cargomatic as we enter our next stage of growth," said Kessler.

Oeleis has more than two decades of experience in the logistics world, including 18 years in various global executive positions with UPS. Most recently, he was a Vice President for Carlile Transportation and later for CEVA Logistics, tasked with business growth and developing supply chain partnerships. Oeleis will report directly to CEO Kessler and be based at Cargomatic headquarters in Los Angeles.

"Technology is fundamentally changing transportation. Cargomatic is leading that charge, and I look forward to helping the company achieve continued recognition in this growing space," said Oeleis.

Diem has more than twenty years of supply chain leadership experience across multiple industries, with a particular focus on building customer-specific logistics solutions. She served as Director of Business Development for XPO (previously Menlo Worldwide) and most recently was Vice President of the less-than-truckload business unit of Coyote Logistics. Diem will report to Oeleis and be based in Chicago.

"Cargomatic's transportation transparency, coupled with the sharing economy model, is redefining what customers expect from their freight experience, and I am excited to be involved with this innovative company," said Diem.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
