CSCMP names Regan recipient of group's Distinguished Service Award

Founder of TranzAct Technologies to receive honor at CSCMP annual meeting in September

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has announced that Michael P. Regan, founder and chief of relationship development at the consultancy TranzAct Technologies Inc., will be the recipient of CSCMP's 2014 Distinguished Service Award. Regan will receive the award on Sept. 22 at the association's Annual Global Conference in San Antonio, Texas.

CSCMP's prestigious Distinguished Service Award is bestowed annually on an individual for significant achievements in the logistics and supply chain management professions. The award was instituted in 1965 as a tribute to logistics pioneer John Drury Sheahan.

"Mike Regan represents the very spirit of CSCMP's Distinguished Service Award," said Rick Blasgen, CSCMP's president and chief executive officer. "He is a champion of innovation and creativity, cares deeply about the people in our profession, and has the ability to share his knowledge in ways that positively impact our community. His vast and significant contributions have left an indelible mark on our industry. We are extremely proud that he is joining this elite group of distinguished supply chain leaders who have been selected to receive this award."

"I am honored to receive CSCMP's Distinguished Service Award," Regan said. "The fact that this award has been given to many logistics and supply chain professionals whom I admire is genuinely humbling. People like Don Bowersox, Bud LaLonde, Ken Ackerman, John Coyle, John Langley, Joel Sutherland, and Cliff Lynch, to name just a few, have had a profound impact on my career by their willingness to listen, offer words of encouragement, and share their insights on supply chain issues. I salute these individuals and all the other CSCMP members who volunteer and give so freely of their time to support the global supply chain community. Their service to others is what CSCMP is all about."

Regan's supply chain career spans nearly four decades. He co-founded TranzAct in 1984 to help shippers plan and control transportation expenditures. By 2000, TranzAct had become the largest privately held freight-payment company in the nation.

Regan has served on the boards of various industry groups, such as the American Society of Transportation & Logistics, where he is a Distinguished Logistics Professional (DLP); the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL); the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), where he served as chairman of the TIA Foundation; and NASSTRAC, where he chaired the Advocacy Committee.

Prior to founding TranzAct, Regan worked for Bank of America, PwC, and the Union Pacific Corp. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Logistics industry growth slowed in December

Logistics industry growth slowed in December due to a seasonal wind-down of inventory and following one of the busiest holiday shopping seasons on record, according to the latest Logistics Managers’ Index (LMI) report, released this week.

The monthly LMI was 57.3 in December, down more than a percentage point from November’s reading of 58.4. Despite the slowdown, economic activity across the industry continued to expand, as an LMI reading above 50 indicates growth and a reading below 50 indicates contraction.

As U.S. small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face an uncertain business landscape in 2025, a substantial majority (67%) expect positive growth in the new year compared to 2024, according to a survey from DHL.

However, the survey also showed that businesses could face a rocky road to reach that goal, as they navigate a complex environment of regulatory/policy shifts and global market volatility. Both those issues were cited as top challenges by 36% of respondents, followed by staffing/talent retention (11%) and digital threats and cyber attacks (2%).
