Rich Kurtz Named Director of National Accounts for BOLT System

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 13, 2020 - BOLT System, a fleet management and freight tracking software company, has named Rich Kurtz as its new director of national accounts. He'll be responsible for new business development and client care with BOLT's major accounts. He'll also integrate new supplier partnerships within the company. Kurtz was previously national account manager at Trimble Transportation.

"Rich has been in the trucking industry for nearly 20 years and understands the needs of fleets - he's a great match for what we offer," said Gayle Robertson, BOLT system's president. "We're continuing to grow at a double-digit clip and bringing on Rich will help us better serve our customers with our industry leading cloud-based fleet management platform."

According to Kurtz, a big draw to joining BOLT was the innovation and culture of the company. "Before the founders started the company, they operated a trucking company - so they understand the industry and the needs of fleets," said Kurtz. "Over the years, I've seen the relationships they've built with their customers and their ability to customize and configure innovative solutions. They brought activity-based pay to the forefront for example, have a highly intuitive load and dispatch module, plus they integrate easily with the leading ELDs in the market. But it's more than that, we've shared many of the same customers, and I've seen their support after the sale -- they truly are world class in customer service. They care about building and maintaining a premier fleet management solution for their customers. I wanted to be a part of that."

BOLT recently announced its BOLT Tandem Workflow app, a new product that has been well received by its customers, according to Robertson. "Since the app is connected to customer accounts, it provides drivers with a suite of services to improve driving productivity while streamlining paperwork," he said. "Our fleet management platform continues to evolve to further simplify fleet management for our customers and their drivers. With the help of Rich, we will continue to showcase our abilities with fleets of all sizes. There is certainly demand for what we're offering, and the future is very exciting."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
