Old Dominion Freight Line Announces Service Center Expansion in the Second Half of 2019

Old Dominion Freight Line Announces Service Center Expansion in the Second Half of 2019

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 16, 2019) — Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. announces continued growth of service centers in eight cities across the United States in the second half of 2019. The leading less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier has responded to the growing capacity needs and increase in customer demand in Central Point, Ore., El Paso and Lubbock, Texas, Blackfoot, Idaho, Columbus, Ohio, Cartersville, Ga., Little Rock, Ark, and Chicago, Ill.

"As our customers adjust to growing ecommerce demands, they rely on us to not only accommodate the additional shipments, but to also help them keep their promises to their customers with fast, on time delivery with no product damage," said Terry Hutchins, Vice President of Real Estate. "We are excited about these new and renovated service center openings. OD will continue to invest in new capacity to welcome the growing demand and exceed our customers' expectations."

Strategically planned and built with innovative, best-in-class technology, Old Dominion's service centers serve as transition hubs to enable increases in daily volume and move shipments smoothly. The strategic locations reduce shipping time, enhance delivery flexibility and allow for increased capacity.

"Our long term strategic plan includes continual investment in our network to improve efficiencies and increase capacity so when our customers grow, we can serve them. The end goal of helping our customers keep their promises is solidified by our continued investment in new technology and service center expansion," said Hutchins.

The LTL carrier focuses on finding new cities to expand in addition to improving current service centers by adding more doors, upgrading technology and hiring additional employees. Old Dominion's third quarter service center openings include:

  • Central Point, Ore. - Strategically located in the Pacific Northwest, the Central Point, Ore. service center was recently built with 42 doors and includes both on-site fuel and scale capabilities. The company will celebrate Oregon's newest service center grand opening Sept. 18.
  • El Paso, Texas - To accommodate strong customer growth in the city of El Paso, Old Dominion completely remodeled their El Paso service center. In addition to the remodel, the company has hired 50 new employees to support the growth since 2018. The open house will take place Sept. 18.
  • Lubbock, Texas - The Texas marketplace is continually growing, along with Old Dominion's customer base in the state. The company recently remodeled the Lubbock service center, adding doors, a new dock, and hired six additional employees. To celebrate this strategic remodel, OD will host an open house on Sept. 19.
  • Blackfoot, Idaho - The Blackfoot service center is a new facility that celebrates the combination of two service centers in Idaho. This brand new facility has 30 doors on 11.8 acres, with the capacity to add 20 more doors as the customer base grows. Idaho Falls' open house is scheduled for Oct. 2.
  • Columbus, Ohio - As the fourth largest facility in Old Dominion's network, the newly remodeled Columbus "break bulk" service center added 100 doors and 200 employees over the course of its expansion in order to accommodate the vast growth in the region. The newly renovated service center totals 301 doors and 750 employees. The Columbus open house will be held on Oct. 9.
  • - Cartersville, Ga. - Located in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains, the Cartersville service center is a brand new build to manage the continued growth of the Atlanta marketplace, with 104 doors and 25.1 acres. The Cartersville open house is scheduled for Oct. 23.
  • Little Rock, Ark. - To better serve the Gulf Coast region and to strategically place another service center along the linehaul network, Old Dominion built the Little Rock service center with 63 doors, with space to add 36 more doors if needed. This service center sits on 18 acres, with 49 employees, and it has the capacity for tremendous growth. OD will celebrate the new Little Rock service center on Oct. 24.
  • Chicago, Ill. - Old Dominion's Chicago facility underwent 15,000 square feet of renovations, expanding the yard by 20 acres, installing new generators, revamping the employee parking lot, and renovating the truck fuel system, among other additions. This facility will continue to help service and grow the Illinois marketplace.
  • These expansions are examples of Old Dominion's investment to making current and new markets as strong as possible for customers, further solidifying OD's promise of transporting shipments on-time and in-full.
