FKI Logistex has unveiled the UniSort MXT sortation subsystem for its vhswEDGE centralmerge conveyors. The vhswEDGE consists of a combination of conveyors that are configured to facilitate high-speed induction of cartons onto a main conveyor line from picking operations in a distribution or manufacturing facility.
The vhswEDGE uses advanced motion-control technologies to space, build, and release groups of cartons from up to 16 infeed lines onto a main conveyor line. The addition of UniSort MXT software optimizes the lane-releasing prioritization schemes used by the vhswEDGE to control product flow, reduce gaps, and create a steady stream of product inducted into the sorter. The software maximizes product density on the sorter infeed lines, which enables throughputs of up to 400 cartons per minute with high-speed sliding shoe and linear belt sortation systems. The combination of UniSort MXT and vhswEDGE technologies boosts existing material handling capacity without increasing sorter speed. This, in turn, can help extend equipment life, maintain accuracy, decrease noise and energy levels, and improve overall return on investment.
With UniSort MXT technology, distribution and manufacturing facilities can quickly scale to absorb peak product demand on a daily or seasonal basis and ramp up for future growth at minimal cost. The software is designed to optimize an FKI Logistex sliding shoe sortation system, such as the UniSort VII, X, and XV, or the company's UniSort Linear Belt Sorter, as well as systems using a competitive sliding shoe sorter.
