Fresenius Medical Care North America chooses AIMMS SC Navigator

The leading medical care company has chosen AIMMS SC Navigator to optimize their U.S. operations and help their existing functional team make a big leap in analytics

Fresenius Medical Care North America chooses AIMMS SC Navigator

Bellevue, Washington, November 7, 2018 - Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMC-NA), a leading medical care company that offers dialysis services and products, has chosen AIMMS SC Navigator, a supply chain platform that includes a growing quantity of next-generation applications from Network Design through S&OP and Inventory Management - all connected, intuitive and accessible. FMC-NA subscribed to SC Navigator to first leverage its comprehensive network design toolset across its U.S. operations and to help their existing functional team make a big leap in analytics.

With more than 2,200 clinics and 26 million hemodialysis treatments provided each year, FMC-NA is a market leader in North America. The company was looking to review its Supply Chain Network Design to optimize the footprint of their DCs and Cross Docks, identify improvement areas for product flow, boost service levels and lower costs. To do this, they were seeking sophisticated, yet easy to use technology to model and evaluate different scenarios.

A Transparent, Collaborative Approach

FMC-NA chose AIMMS SC Navigator over competitor solutions due to its transparent and consultative approach. The team was able to preview how the technology works by participating in a collaborative workshop that used real data in an interactive session. "AIMMS' willingness to invest in a pre-sales deep dive POC with our data showed a commitment to developing a long-term relationship and partnership, not just making a sale," says Bill Hargrave, Vice President IT, Global Manufacturing and Quality, NA Operations at FMC-NA. "This also provided us a preview of the quality of their technical resources and demonstrated high confidence in the product. They knew that their team and the product could deliver a positive experience."

Usability, speed and value

SC Navigator was also selected for its usability and the speed to value. The software was designed by supply chain professionals, for supply chain professionals, so it is well aligned with the needs of its customers. The healthcare leader was able to quickly make use of existing data to map their supply chain network and start evaluating its efficiency. "AIMMS SC Navigator provides outstanding value," Bill Hargrave adds. "It allows us to quickly answer very specific questions affecting our business. The benefits from optimizing our business based on those answers provides a great ROI for FMC-NA."

Long-term relationship

Like all new AIMMS SC Navigator customers, FMC-NA's team received in-depth training and coaching to provide an accelerated path to mastering supply chain digital transformation and analytics. The team will continue to receive support from AIMMS' Supply Chain and planning specialists to make the most effective use of the technology. They will also become part of the extended AIMMS customer community, where they can connect with peers and exchange ideas.

"It's our pleasure to welcome Fresenius Medical Care North America as an AIMMS SC Navigator customer. Equipping the FMC-NA expert supply chain team with a happy path to supply chain analytics inspires and motivates us to keep pushing forward," says VP and Product Lead for SC Navigator Chris Gordon. "We look forward to partnering with the FMC-NA team for many years as they continue on their journey to embrace analytics and achieve great business results."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
