Alliance Shippers Inc. Promotes Steven Golich to Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Englewood Cliffs, NJ Alliance Shippers Inc., a leader in transportation services and global logistics, is pleased to announce the promotion of Steven M. Golich to Chief Operating Officer. The new role adds to his existing duties as Executive Vice President.

Steve joined the Alliance team 20 years ago as a Vice President of Special Projects, with responsibilities for sales and operations. He started Selective Distribution LLC, a freight handling business, as a subsidiary of Alliance Shippers Inc. prior to his 2001 promotion to Regional Vice President.

As Regional Vice President, Steve managed all sales, operations and administrative functions for the Orland Park, Illinois, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin offices. In 2015, Steve was appointed to the role of Executive Vice President.

His latest promotion follows the January 2, 2018, passing of Ronald Lefcourt, president of Alliance Shippers. It will include the additional duties of overseeing the daily operation of all company offices and services.

"Although the loss of my father will be deeply felt, this transition is a natural progression," said new company President and CEO Jonathan Lefcourt, who has been with Alliance Shippers for over three decades. "Steve has taken on more responsibility over the years and has grown into a key part of our leadership team along the way."

"As he steps into his new role, I am confident that he will continue to inspire the type of smart solutions and cost-effective services our customers have come to expect," he added, "and I am eager to support these efforts moving forward."

Steve earned a degree in marketing from Northern Illinois University. Before joining Alliance Shippers, he gained experience through various positions in the transportation and distribution industry that twice led to his appointment as president of mid-size transportation companies.

Along with his wife, he continues to call the greater Chicago area home and intends to maintain offices at both Orland Park and at company headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
