Old Dominion Debuts "Clear" Trailer At All-Star Week

Guess Number of Balls it would take to Fill Trailer for Chance to Win Tickets to Next Three World Series

Old Dominion Debuts "Clear" Trailer At All-Star Week

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (July 7, 2017) — Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is unveiling a unique World Series ticket sweepstakes and innovative "clear" trailer during Major League Baseball's All-Star Week festivities.

Old Dominion, the Official Freight Carrier of MLB, is awarding a pair of tickets to one game of each of the next three World Series to an individual who can come closest to guessing the number of baseballs it would take to fill this customized trailer. The "OD Seats to the World Series" sweepstakes debuts at MLB's All-Star week, July 9 in Miami, Fla. in front of Marlins Park.

"We're helping our customers and fans celebrate the national pastime by delivering the ultimate premium experience - tickets to three consecutive World Series," said David Carter, Old Dominion's vice president of marketing communications. "This prize underscores our daily promise to our customers, delivering premium service."

After departing from Miami on July 12, the baseball trailer will begin a cross-country tour through August, visiting the seven MLB Clubs that Old Dominion sponsors: the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals. Fans can enter the sweepstakes online at odfl.com/tickets.

Engineers at Wabash National in Lafayette, Ind. took on the logistical challenge of designing and building this "clear" and highly unique trailer, strategically balancing the additional weight of the balls in a trailer that could travel across the country.

"The 'OD Seats to the World Series' tour allows us to connect with fans across the country, and introduce the Old Dominion brand to logistics and freight managers and baseball fans," Carter said. "We're thrilled to be the first carrier to create and showcase an innovative trailer that celebrates our connection with America's pastime."

In addition to the sweepstakes and baseball trailer reveal, MLB legends Dave Winfield, Tim Raines and Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez will appear at Old Dominion's FanFest booth in the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Look out for the baseball trailer on the road! These dates are subject to change:
•New York Mets - July 14, 15, 16
•Boston Red Sox - July 17, 18, 19, 20
•Chicago Cubs - July 24, 25

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
