ORBIS Pally® Wins an ASB 2017 Innovation Award

The American Society for Baking awarded the Pally for operational excellence at BakingTech

ORBIS Pally® Wins an ASB 2017 Innovation Award

The Pally® won the operational excellence award given by the American Society of Baking (ASB) through its 2017 Innovation Awards Program. The Pally is manufactured by the ORBIS® Corporation, an international manufacturer of reusable packaging and supply chain optimization expert, and is being recognized for its unique ability to convert from a mobile dolly to a static pallet in just one movement. The award winners were announced at BakingTech 2017, Feb. 26 to 28 in Chicago.

The Pally is known for combining the mobility of a dolly with the functionality of a static pallet to enable new and enhanced material handling capabilities. The dual feature allows material to be rolled from the truck directly to the aisle. This unique performance results in greater end-to-end supply chain versatility for increased efficiency, especially for small-format retailers. The Pally's durability and long service life allow for frequent product deliveries, and its two footprints — 31.5" x 23.6" and 39.4" x 23.6" — allow for easy maneuverability in tight spaces, such as narrow doorways and aisles.

The Pally has performed in numerous shipping and merchandising applications. When combining a racking system and bakery trays, the Pally can transform into an in-aisle shopper-ready endcap or point-of-purchase display, alleviating the need for retail associates to restock products. The Pally is a cost-effective merchandising solution that fits most retail spaces without hassle.

The innovative design of the Pally allows the display to be easily moved, as needed. Even with its mobile capability, the Pally is safe to use for merchandising because the rubber braking stabilizers prevent it from moving after lateral force is applied. Collisions with shopping carts or other objects will not cause the Pally to transition out of its static mode.

"We know retailers want to move product faster, safer and more efficiently. This requires modern supply chains to use and re-use packaging at multiple points in their current and future processes. The Pally streamlines the movement of goods and has a long service life, withstanding multiple trips," said Mike Ludka, senior product manager, ORBIS Corporation. "We are proud the Pally is being recognized for its enhanced capabilities that are useful in a variety of industries."

The ASB Innovation Awards Program celebrates industry leaders and companies in the grain-based foods industry for their innovative development and implementation of leading-edge products, equipment design and advancements in ingredient technology. The Innovation Award for Operational Excellence specifically recognizes companies that have demonstrated continuous improvement, dedication, best practices, creativity, innovation and ongoing contribution to the advancement of bakery production and operations.
