CBRE'S STEVE BERGER WINS NTCAR STEMMONS SERVICE AWARD

DALLAS - January 30, 2017 - Steve Berger was named the 2016 NTCAR Stemmons Service Award winner at the formal ceremony on January 26, 2017 at the Dallas Country Club. This award is considered one of the highest honors in commercial real estate in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Mr. Berger, a Senior Vice President with CBRE's Industrial & Logistics team in Dallas, has completed assignments on over 52 million square feet of space. He joined CBRE in 1985 to direct the industrial research department and transitioned into industrial property brokerage in 1986.

His extensive professional experience includes tenant representation, leasing, sales, build-to-suits, land and consulting for Fortune 500 companies on both national and local levels. Mr. Berger's creativity, dedication and strong attention to detail are hallmarks of the service he provides to his clients.

Each year NTCAR recognizes one member who best exemplifies the highest professional standards of a commercial real estate broker with the Stemmons Service Award. This prestigious award is conferred on the professional who has earned the respect of his or her peers, and is an active and productive broker who successfully resolves the intricacies of bringing two parties together in a real estate transaction. Specific considerations for this award include a professional's participation in real estate organizations, professional and civic involvement, active production level and professional standards.

Mr. Berger was nominated because of his dedication to his clients, his firm and his work, along with his genuine passion for the commercial real estate industry. He has been consistently recognized as a Heavy Hitter by the Dallas Business Journal and was named Industrial Broker of the Year in 2012 by the North Texas Chapter of NAIOP. Steve also worked on the Kubota Tractor Corporation Headquarters relocation to Grapevine, which won the D CEO Commercial Real Estate Award for Best Headquarters Deal in 2016.

"It's very humbling when you look at the names on that trophy. To be considered among that group of people is an incredible honor," said Mr. Berger. "Being acknowledged for past efforts is great, but I would hope that the real significance lies in both inspiring others to find ways to make our community a better place as well as providing me additional opportunities to find a way to make an impact."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.
