Choptank Transport recognized by MD Chamber for Philanthropy

Third-Party logistics company, Choptank Transport, is honored by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce for its philanthropy.

Choptank Transport has been recognized by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce for their philanthropy. Choptank's charitable giving includes over a dozen organizations but the company's involvement with the March of Dimes and their Thanksgiving dinner donation which feeds over 250 people in need each year, was of particular note.

Every year, the Maryland business community contributes millions of dollars and countless volunteer hours to charitable organizations throughout the state. The Maryland Chamber of Commerce, together with the Baltimore Business Journal, will honor three area businesses or institutions with the Business Philanthropy Award at an event on November 9, 2016 at the Baltimore Marriot Waterfront Hotel.

The awards are presented as part of the Philanthropy Day luncheon held by the Maryland Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). This is the 16th year that the Maryland Chamber of Commerce has honored the philanthropic efforts of area organizations.

The awards are divided into three categories:

Small (employers with 1-100 employees)
Medium (employers with 101-500 employees)
Large (employers with over 500 employees)

Choptank Transport falls into the medium-size employer category and will receive an award at the luncheon.

Those who provided outstanding support for local nonprofits, 501(c)(3)s and/or schools, between September 2015 and August 2016 were eligible for this year's award.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
