City Furniture Implements HighJump Enterprise Warehouse Management System

South Florida's largest furniture retailer now running adaptable WMS to support complex supply chain, future growth

MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 26, 2016) - HighJump, a global provider of supply chain network solutions, announced today that City Furniture has implemented HighJump™ Warehouse Advantage warehouse management system (WMS) at its main distribution center in Tamarac, Fla. City Furniture has 26 stores - 15 retail showrooms operate as City Furniture and 11 operate as Ashley Furniture HomeStore (under a licensing agreement) - making it the largest furniture retailer in South Florida. The company also supports a growing online business.
City Furniture delivers its products across South Florida with its own fleet of trucks, running up to 60 routes every day of the week. The company offers same-day delivery seven days a week, which requires unique operational protocol.
"The timeline, budget and feature expectations we set were all met by HighJump during the implementation process," City Furniture Chief Financial Officer Steve Wilder said. "There is no room for error since we offer same-day delivery - it's only possible with flawless inventory accuracy and real-time visibility at every stage. The adaptable nature of HighJump's platform allowed us to tailor the WMS to match the processes that have historically worked for us. In addition, the HighJump implementation team helped us evaluate and apply enhancements that have already improved our efficiency in the warehouse."
The furniture retailer previously had a legacy WMS that could not be upgraded. This will never be a problem again because HighJump software is architected so that business logic is stored separately from the application, meaning system upgrades do not touch custom workflows.
City Furniture is actively working to open three more showrooms - one of which will have an attached satellite distribution center - in the Orlando market within the next two years with plans to expand into the Tampa area in the next few years. Its distribution centers will rely on HighJump Warehouse Advantage to support City Furniture's reputation for excellent customer service, high quality products and outstanding value at those new locations. In addition, the system has the scalability to facilitate continued growth.
"We feel honored to have been selected by City Furniture and look forward to supporting their future growth," said Chad Collins, chief operating officer, HighJump. "Leading furniture companies, including Ashley Furniture Industries, have been a crucial piece of HighJump's client portfolio for a long time. We understand the handling and shipping challenges particular to that space."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
