Supply Chain Leader Michael Martin to Keynote Barcoding, Inc.'s Executive Forum 6

Barcoding, Inc., a leader in supply chain efficiency, accuracy, and connectivity, announces Michael Martin, director of global S&OP and continuous improvement at Stanley Black & Decker, as the keynote speaker for its 6th Annual Executive Forum. With nearly three decades of experience, Martin will share insights on professional development and career success in the supply chain industry. Barcoding's Executive Forum 6: Be Efficient - Accurate - Connected™ is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

A well-rounded supply chain professional, Martin has held many operational and strategic roles with Stanley Black & Decker - starting as a mail room clerk and working his way up to management positions. In his keynote presentation, tentatively titled, "Be the Outlier: Separating Yourself from the Pack," Martin will discuss his own personal and professional development that led to a successful supply chain career. He will also share insights on motivating and grooming the next generation of supply chain leaders and provide tips that attendees can apply to their own careers.

"With new technologies and strategies continuously on the rise, it is an exciting time to work in the supply chain industry," said Michael Martin, director of global S&OP and continuous improvement, Stanley Black & Decker. "However, as the industry becomes more complex, it has been difficult for companies to find enough skilled employees to cultivate the next generation of supply chain rock stars. By sharing my personal experiences, I hope that Executive Forum attendees will gain a fresh perspective on honing their own careers and attracting new talent in order to improve their business' efficiency, accuracy, and connectivity."

Executive Forum 6 is Barcoding's premier supply chain event. The full-day conference is designed to provide #SupplyChainGeeks with the knowledge to succeed with mobile technology in the enterprise. In addition to Martin's keynote, the Forum will provide thought leadership from leading area supply chain experts; a lively panel discussion; an RFID demonstration; networking opportunities; exclusive Executive Briefings; and a Solutions Showcase featuring the latest mobile computers, tablets, printers, software, analytics and much more.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.
