Crown Equipment Extends Training Footprint With New Forklift Service Training Center

Crown Equipment Extends Training Footprint With New Forklift Service Training Center

NEW BREMEN, Ohio (May 24, 2016) - Crown Equipment Corporation, one of the world's largest material handling companies, today announced the opening of a new regional service training center in Kansas City, Kansas. The company now has a network of eight regional service training centers across North America dedicated to training programs for Crown customers, dealers and employees.

The new Crown facility joins the company's existing regional training centers in California, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Ohio, Texas and Ontario, Canada, in offering Crown's award-winning Demonstrated Performance® (DP) Training programs for service technicians. The company, through its network of regional training centers, company-owned branches and independent dealers offers a comprehensive range of forklift training programs, including DP Service Training for technicians, DP MoveSafe® Train-the-Operator, DP LeadSafe® Train-the-Supervisor, DP TrainSafe® Train-the-Trainer and pedestrian training.

"Crown's one-of-a-kind regional training center network exemplifies our commitment to offering forklift training programs that help our customers promote safety, improve productivity and reduce total cost of ownership. Each location is fully supported by Crown and features factory-trained instructors," said Justin Moore, regional training manager, Crown Equipment. "Crown's Demonstrated Performance training goes above and beyond traditional classroom lectures, allowing participants to work directly on forklifts with instructor supervision. Through first-hand experience, participants gain the specific skills and knowledge they need to keep a fleet up and running."

For example, the Crown DP service technician training model incorporates hands-on learning, a ratio of four students to every instructor and ongoing positive instructor feedback. The model requires students to demonstrate for an instructor the skills they learned individually. This helps ensure each student develops the necessary skills to confidently perform service work according to Crown guidelines. The workshops are customizable to match the needs of each technician and participants access the latest interactive modules through Crown's learning management system. The training is designed to allow technicians to move at their own pace and focus on the particular tasks and skill groups that best serve their organization.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
