CBRE Hires Leading Supply Chain Expert Joe Dunlap

Executive's Arrival Enhances CBRE's Advisory Services for Logistics Clients

CBRE Hires Leading Supply Chain Expert Joe Dunlap

Los Angeles - May 10, 2016 - CBRE Group, Inc., today announced that Joe Dunlap, a 27-year supply chain veteran, has joined the company as Managing Director of Supply Chain Services to advise clients on designing and transforming their increasingly complex supply chains. Mr. Dunlap will serve as part of the leadership team for the company's Industrial & Logistics business in the Americas.

Mr. Dunlap joins CBRE as supply-chain-dependent companies are going through significant disruption due to changing consumer behavior; extreme focus on balancing cost and service; and the drive to ensure that supply chain builds a competitive advantage. Whether companies are addressing cost initiatives, growth enablement or mergers and acquisitions, supply chain plays a critical role.

"Clients today are facing monumental pressures, and the role of real estate is increasingly important for them because location decisions are driving the process of mapping out their supply chains," said Adam Mullen, CBRE Supply Chain and Occupier Leader and Managing Director of Industrial & Logistics, the Americas. "As a result, their needs prior to and during site selection require an advisory and business-case-focused approach. Joe provides exactly that through deep expertise in supply chain and client service."

In his new role, Mr. Dunlap advises clients in areas such as business-case development, supply chain strategy, operations and capacity assessments, and logistics outsourcing. In addition, his experience in network design will enhance CBRE's ability to help clients build their supply chains while balancing transportation, inventory, labor and occupancy costs.

Prior to joining CBRE, Joe spent five years at global distribution consultancy Fortna Inc., where he led the Supply Chain Strategy practice. Prior to that, he was a Principal at Accenture, leading various supply chain, fulfillment and operations projects. He also worked in a leadership capacity at Siemens/Dematic and spent the first portion of his career in varying roles at United Parcel Service.

"I'm excited to provide additional value for CBRE clients by bringing them an even broader set of supply chain capabilities," Mr. Dunlap said. "We'll leverage the unmatched array of CBRE services through a supply chain lens, including project management, management consulting, financial analysis, labor analytics and economic incentives."

Mr. Dunlap received a B.S. in Management Information Services from Tennessee Technological University. He is a member of the Warehousing Research Council, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and the Automatic Identification & Data Capture 100.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
