U.S. Gain partners with H&S Bakery to bring new GAIN® Clean Fuel station to Baltimore

U.S. Gain partners with H&S Bakery to bring new GAIN® Clean Fuel station to Baltimore

Baltimore, MD - (March 31, 2016) - U.S. Gain, the compressed natural gas (CNG) division of U.S. Venture, Inc. announced today that it has completed a new CNG station in partnership with H&S Bakery, a bakery provider for McDonald's and other fast-food restaurants. The easy access, fast-fill GAIN Clean Fuel station is located at the intersection of I-95 and I-895 in Baltimore and is open to all CNG fleets and the public.

"This is a great partnership and one we encourage other carriers to consider," said Michael Jones from the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) and Maryland Cities Coalition. "Utilizing natural gas as a transportation fuel offers significant economic and air quality benefits. CNG is produced regionally and throughout the U.S. and that contributes to a less volatile fuel price and is cheaper than diesel. In addition, CNG emits fewer air pollutants than conventional diesel fuel, so everyone benefits." A $500,000 award from the Maryland Natural Gas Refilling Station Grant Program helped to fund the project.

"We are excited to partner with U.S. Gain as we transition a significant portion of our fleet to CNG," said Chuck Paterakis, vice president, transportation and logistics for Northeast Foods/H&S Bakery. "We selected U.S. Gain as our partner based on the company's ability to meet our customers' extremely high operational and environmental standards. This business decision allows us to benefit from the future growth of CNG in the transportation industry."
Located near their distribution center, the Baltimore station not only gives the H&S Bakery fleet a strategic fueling location, but also contributes to their own commitment to improve sustainability efforts.

One of the main advantages for fleets converting to CNG is that it is a cost-effective alternative to diesel fuel. "In addition to the cost savings, CNG has lower carbon emissions which is better for the environment," said GAIN Clean Fuel's General Manager Bill Renz. "For companies like H&S Bakery, it fits perfectly into the environmental policies they have for their business."

Another advantage of CNG is that it's a domestically produced product, which insulates it from global influences that create price volatility in other fuels such as diesel.
"Fleets that are making the decision to convert to CNG are doing it for two reasons. One, because it's more efficient from an environmental perspective, and two, because it's a smart business decision," Renz said. "Those companies that don't begin to convert their fleets to CNG will have to catch up down the road."

KUKA to Showcase Cobots for Medical Applications at AAOS Meeting

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich., Jan. 28, 2025 – Targeting the reduction of work-related injury for healthcare workers and shortening time-to-market for medical device OEMs, KUKA Robotics will bring two advanced medical innovations featuring cobot automation to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) annual meeting in booth #540. The event takes place in San Diego, California, March 10-14, and attendees will see how KUKA’s LBR iisy cobot solution helps reduce the incidence of arm and shoulder injury to ultrasound technicians and sonographers. A second cobot demonstration will feature a KUKA Robot Development Kit using a LBR MED 14 R820 cobot that helps slash development time for unique medical device solutions.

Because of the repetitive nature of their work, sonographers and ultrasound technicians commonly experience musculoskeletal disorders such as tendonitis and rotator cuff injury from their work that requires them to apply pressure with abnormal arm and shoulder positioning. Using robot technology such as KUKA’s LBR iisy cobot, however, can take the strain off these technicians by precisely conducting these repetitive exams autonomously. Equipped with a Haply Inverse3 Hapatic Feedback Teleop Device and an OptoForce FT Sensor, the LBR iisy robotic arm can be controlled and manipulated to apply the proper amount of force to the imaging head for a proper reading.
