HOUSTON (March 17, 2016) - Cat® Lift Trucks, a leading provider of quality and reliable lift trucks, today awarded an exceptional Spring Branch Independent School District (ISD) high school senior, Fredy Corrales, with a $5,000 scholarship to pursue a chemical engineering degree from Texas A&M University.
This is the 12th year that Cat Lift Trucks has offered the annual scholarship, which awards a deserving student based on his or her academic performance, financial need, leadership, extracurricular activities and community involvement.
Corrales is currently a high school senior at Northbrook High School in the Spring Branch ISD. During his high school career, he has excelled in both academic and community pursuits. He ranks 17th in his class of 420 students with a GPA of 6.146 and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Corrales was also honored with the District Medal of Recognition for his work on The Jason Project, a non-profit organization that connects students to real science and exploration to motivate them to study and pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). In 2012, he spent several days on the Aegean Sea aboard the "Nautilus," an exploration vessel which belongs to Dr. Robert Ballard, the scientist credited for finding the remains of the Titanic on the ocean floor.
"For over a decade, Cat Lift Trucks has provided this scholarship to exemplary students and leaders of tomorrow," said Kent Eudy, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Cat Lift Trucks. "Today, we continue this tradition by presenting this award to Fredy Corrales for his exceptional leadership and contributions to our local community."
Corrales accepted his scholarship at an awards reception at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ (Show) on March 11, 2016, which was headlined by singer Darius Rucker. Cat Lift Trucks has served as the Official Lift Truck Provider of the Show for the past 12 years, where the company has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to Houston-area students.
