Liberty Cold Chooses Open Sky Group to Implement JDA Warehouse Management In Their Cool, New Facility

Raleigh, NC - Open Sky Group (Open Sky - www.openskygroup.com), a consulting company specializing in implementation of Warehouse Management System (WMS) software, and Liberty Cold, a brand new 3rd Party Public Refrigerated Warehouse, announce a successful implementation for JDA Warehouse Management.

Liberty Cold, located in Bolingbrook, IL, is a new division of West Liberty Foods, LLC. This refrigerated warehouse and distribution center consists of 20,000 pallet positions of multi-temperature space, designed with food safety and food security in mind. The facility officially opened on February 1, 2016. The software project was under very tight timelines, beginning in late 2015 and going live in late January of 2016.

Tim Cox, Vice President of Liberty Cold, said, "Our goal is to leverage technology in our systems and buildings to bring value to clients and help identify opportunities in their supply chains. This has been my passion since I began in the industry over 15 years ago. I chose Open Sky Group to implement JDA Warehouse Management because of their implementation and integration expertise, their flexibility and the strength of the JDA software products. We're focused on bringing flexibility to our clients and proactively addressing the variability in their demand. Open Sky and JDA have helped us achieve that goal."

"We love working with growing companies like Liberty Cold and helping them to achieve their vision. This JDA Warehouse Management implementation was perfect for a tight timeline because it was a greenfield site; everything is new, no data to carryforward, etc.," said Jason Yantiss, VP of Client Services at Open Sky Group. "We're looking forward to continue to partner with Liberty Cold as they grow and expand."

"We are excited to have an alliance company like Open Sky Group representing JDA in the market and working with great companies like Liberty Cold to deploy their WMS solutions," said Thad Zylka, regional vice president, JDA Software. "Open Sky Group brings a wealth of knowledge and a broad skillset to the JDA ecosystem and we are delighted to partner with them to provide JDA's leading software solutions to our joint customers."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.
