Global Forwarder, M.E. Dey, Adopts CargoSphere Frictionless Rate Networking

- CargoSphere technology facilitates real-time access to partner, NVO and carrier contract freight rates -

Chapel Hill, North Carolina, February 11, 2016 - CargoSphere, the leading provider of frictionless rate networking and cloud-based global freight rate management, today announces that M.E. Dey & Co., Inc., a global freight forwarder and customs broker, has implemented the CargoSphere rate platform. With Cargosphere, M.E. Dey has a single database of systematized freight rates which allows them to access their direct carrier contract rates, and rates from 3 NVOs, the NCBFAA-SA, and their Asian global partners to quickly and accurately create branded quotes for customers. The NVO and partner rates are published in CargoSphere's Cloud-based Rate Mesh, a connected network of industry parties that receive and distribute freight rates confidentially online, anytime day or night.

"The CargoSphere Rate Mesh allows us to access up-to-date rates online, which is fast and timely. Before CargoSphere we often would wait 24 hours to receive rates from our partner in China. It's great that our quote turn-time is now timelier for customers," said Sarah Azar, Project Manager, Certified Customs Specialist, M.E. Dey & Co., Inc.

"CargoSphere's aim is to continue developing solutions that provide a frictionless rate experience for global shipping, one that works simply and doesn't hold business back. Integrated technology that enables companies like M.E. Dey to quote faster, more accurately and collaborate more effectively with industry partners online and in real-time delivers immeasurable value to all shipping parties," said Neil Barni, president of CargoSphere.

Prior to the CargoSphere deployment, M.E. Dey was paying a third party to publish their FMC tariffs. They now reduce that cost by self-publishing FMC tariffs with the CargoSphere platform. This integration provides a more efficient and seamless way for M.E. Dey to share this important shipping information.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
