In today's low-price environment, responding to changing demand with the right capacity, quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively, can make or break profitability. This creates even more imperative for oil and gas companies to build more efficient, cost-effective oil and gas supply chains. With this in mind, OGSC will feature a high-level, two-day program devoted to knowledge sharing and best practices in oil and gas supply chain management. Attendees will learn how to maximize efficiencies, control and manage costs, manage supplier/partner relationships, source materials and more.

We're pleased to announce Craig Freking, Vice President of Manufacturing and Supply Chain at Weir Oil and Gas will deliver an afternoon keynote presentation titled, "Five key collaborations essential to efficient supply chain management." Freking's presentation will focus on the top five collaboration areas that are critical to successful supply chain management, using examples gleaned from his company's experience as a global manufacturer of wellhead products for a variety of applications and pressure ratings. Oil and Gas supply chain specialists from BP Alaska, Cairn India Limited, Ryder Supply Chain Solutions, GE Oil & Gas, Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Co Ltd (SAMREF), Power Advocate, and Panalpina will also be participating in this inaugural event.

Conference sessions will focus on:

- Driving operational excellence thru strategic distribution, planning and scheduling
- Cost management
- Innovation in technology and research for SCM excellence
- Best practices
- Developing effective collaborations for an efficient supply chain ecosystem
- Efficiencies in shale play operations

"In today's market, Supply Chain Management is one of the key areas in which both operators and vendors can gain operational efficiencies to lower costs and improve customer service," stated John Royall, President and CEO of Gulf Publishing Company. "Beyond sourcing, technologies and best practices enable companies to drive down inventory carrying costs, implement just-in-time deliveries, and rationalize supply chains to lower costs while improving efficiencies. It's a critical discipline for the oil and gas industry."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.
