Navitas Systems says it offers the largest lineup of lithium-ion forklift batteries in the North American market: four 24-volt, two 36-volt, and two 48-volt models, with amp-hour capacities ranging from 300 to 700 amp-hours. The iron-phosphate-based lithium-ion batteries fit into heavy iron sleeves that compensate for the lighter weight of the batteries compared with traditional lead-acid batteries.
The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency's giant Susquehanna distribution center recently launched a year-long test of the batteries and has already achieved enough benefits that it has decided to test them at its San Joaquin food and beverage DC as well, said Navitas President Mil Ovan. The company has also been conducting tests with The Raymond Corp. on high-lift order pickers, documenting consistent time-savings of three seconds for identical loads of 1,500 pounds raised to 300 inches.
