Wavelink was doing mobile device management before it was even called mobile device management. Or at least that's the impression you get after talking to Kelly Ungs, senior director of channels for the company.
Lots of companies are rushing into enterprise mobility management, or helping companies deploy and manage their potentially thousands of mobile devices. Wavelink's enterprise mobility management product Avalanche, however, grew out of the company's 25-year history of providing terminal emulation for rugged devices.
IT departments can use Avalanche for such things as remotely configuring settings, remotely controlling the device to resolve issues, and battery management. The system also allows users to perform what's called "app wrapping," or creating what Ungs refers to as "a bubble" around an app with business rules that would define such things as what other applications can communicate with it and whether it's allowed to accept cellular data or Wi-Fi.
