Transportation and logistics provider DHL opened its fourth Bay Area service center, in Sunnyvale, Calif., responding to rapid growth from Silicon Valley businesses, the company said this week.
The new $12 million, 39,000-square-foot facility can sort 3,000 packages per hour, providing faster delivery times by up to an hour and offering later shipment pickup cutoff times, the company said.
DHL also said it will invest $3.5 million to add 30 electric vehicles to its 40-vehicle Sunnyvale fleet as part of the company's global initiative to reduce its carbon footprint.
DHL employs 500 people at its four Bay Area service centers, which also include Fremont, Oakland and San Francisco.
