Florida maritime freight facility Port Canaveral said Friday that it is calling on amateur photographers in the region to submit their best pictures for a photo contest in honor of the port's 65th anniversary.

Interested participants have until September 30 to submit up to three original digital photographs taken in or around Port Canaveral that illustrate an aspect of the port, such as scenery, cruise or cargo ships, pleasure boats, nature, port operations, wildlife, and space launches as seen from the port.

A volunteer panel of five judges will review all photos and select the top three in each of five categories—cruise, cargo, fishing/boating/recreation, environmental, and space. Photographs will be judged on impact, creativity, composition, and storytelling.

The port will announce the winners on Nov. 3, display the top photos at an exhibition on Nov. 4, and show off the winning snapshots at various locations around the port during the coming year. Check online for contest rules and entry forms.

Following a year in which global logistics networks were buffeted by labor strikes, natural disasters, regional political violence, and economic turbulence, the supply chain visibility provider Project44 has compiled the impact of each of those events in a new study.

The “2024 Year in Review” report lists the various transportation delays, freight volume restrictions, and infrastructure repair costs of a long string of events. Those disruptions include labor strikes at Canadian ports and postal sites, the U.S. East and Gulf coast port strike; hurricanes Helene, Francine, and Milton; the Francis Scott key Bridge collapse in Baltimore Harbor; the CrowdStrike cyber attack; and Red Sea missile attacks on passing cargo ships.

Shippeo gains $30 million backing for its transportation visibility platform

The French transportation visibility provider Shippeo today said it has raised $30 million in financial backing, saying the money will support its accelerated expansion across North America and APAC, while driving enhancements to its “Real-Time Transportation Visibility Platform” product.
