Sealed Air annual contest to pick newest Bubble Wrap design

Bubble Wrap ballot options include four patterns: Toy box, veggie patch, fresh leaves, and awareness ribbon. Contest ends February 5.

Sealed Air annual contest to pick newest Bubble Wrap design

To celebrate Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day, which takes place the last Monday in January, Charlotte-based Sealed Air Corp. has called on the public to again select a new design for its Bubble Wrap IB Expressions line.

Introduced in 2016 as an enhancement to the online shopper's unboxing experience, the expressions line offers inflate-on-demand bubbles in various shapes, colors, and greetings. Last year's winning design—a dog bone—"quickly became the best seller in the Bubble Wrap IB Expressions line," the company stated in a prepared release.

What started as a failed attempt by Alfred W. Fielding and Marc Chavannes 60 years ago to create new wall coverings by sealing air pockets in between two plastic shower curtains, Bubble Wrap has transformed the logistics industry with its shaped air pockets. The packaging material has gone well beyond changing how parcels are packaged and shipped. Fans have carved out a special bond with Bubble Wrap, whether it be in a practical sense by moving breakable items, or in a whimsical way by playfully jumping on the wrap or popping each air pocket for some much-needed stress relief.

The winning design will be revealed on Bubble's Wrap's Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds on February 6 at 11 a.m. ET. The company said in a statement that the new design could appear in e-commerce shipments later this year.

For more information on the "Pop the Vote" contest and to cast a ballot, visit the company's Bubble Wrap Appreciate Day website. Fans can choose from four patterns—toy box, veggie patch, fresh leaves, and awareness ribbon—as well as share photos of their own Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day celebrations by using the hashtag #BubbleWrap.

Those upgrades would enable the Outer Harbor to accommodate Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs), which are now a regular part of the shipping fleet calling on West Coast ports. Each of these ships has a handling capacity of up to 24,000 TEUs (20-foot containers) but are currently restricted at portions of Oakland’s Outer Harbor by aging wharves which were originally designed for smaller ships.

Averitt tracks three hurdles for international trade in 2025

Businesses engaged in international trade face three major supply chain hurdles as they head into 2025: the disruptions caused by Chinese New Year (CNY), the looming threat of potential tariffs on foreign-made products that could be imposed by the incoming Trump Administration, and the unresolved contract negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX), according to an analysis from trucking and logistics provider Averitt.

Each of those factors could lead to significant shipping delays, production slowdowns, and increased costs, Averitt said.

FTR: Trucking sector outlook is bright for a two-year horizon

The trucking freight market is still on course to rebound from a two-year recession despite stumbling in September, according to the latest assessment by transportation industry analysis group FTR.

Bloomington, Indiana-based FTR said its Trucking Conditions Index declined in September to -2.47 from -1.39 in August as weakness in the principal freight dynamics – freight rates, utilization, and volume – offset lower fuel costs and slightly less unfavorable financing costs.
