New CargoNet tool maps risk of cargo theft on any route

RouteSearch displays crime and fraud data for routes throughout North America, firm says.

Cargo theft prevention group CargoNet released a software tool today that the company says identifies the risk of theft at any location by visually mapping the company's data onto users' custom-built routes across North America.

The RouteSearch tool is an upgrade to the Jersey City, N.J.-based company's existing product, which is a database of supply chain cargo crime and fraud-prevention information.

CargoNet members can now use RouteSearch to create custom maps of their trucking routes in order to prevent cargo theft, the company said. Customers can add detailed loss information by adjusting the radius and date range of theft data, then make that map more precise by adding layers of truck stop locations, zooming in to a street-level plot, switching to satellite view, or filtering by commodity, according to CargoNet.

CargoNet, a division of the Verisk Crime Analytics unit at risk assessment firm Verisk Analytics Inc., said it provides the information from its national database and information-sharing system, which is managed by crime analysts and subject matter experts. The company uses that platform to provide recovery support, deterrence measures, and coordinated real-time communications between theft victims and law-enforcement agents.

Industry groups: reciprocal tariffs show “incomplete thinking”

As the Trump Administration threatens new steps in a growing trade war, U.S. manufacturers and retailers are calling for a ceasefire, saying the crossfire caused by the new tax hikes on American businesses will raise prices for consumers and possibly trigger rising inflation.

Tariffs are taxes charged by a country on its own businesses that import goods from other nations. Until they can invest in long-term alternatives like building new factories or finding new trading partners, companies must either take those additional tax duties out of their profit margins or pass them on to consumers as higher prices.

Warehouse automation project orders fell 3% in 2024

Warehouse automation orders declined by 3% in 2024, according to a February report from market research firm Interact Analysis. The company said the decline was due to economic, political, and market-specific challenges, including persistently high interest rates in many regions and the residual effects of an oversupply of warehouses built during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The research also found that increasing competition from Chinese vendors is expected to drive down prices and slow revenue growth over the report’s forecast period to 2030.
