Third-party logistics provider (3PL) Kane Is Able Inc. will operate the Northeast regional distribution center for Dow Building Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Co., the companies said Thursday.
Scranton, Pa.-based Kane Is Able signed a long-term agreement to use its Scranton campus to provide logistics support for Dow Building Solutions. Dow provides a range of foam insulation and building for residential and commercial structures.
The site is a good fit because Dow needed a 3PL with a large amount of outdoor space that was also close to a Northeast-region intermodal ramp. The company stores much of its insulation product outdoors and uses an intermodal transportation solution, so it chose Kane Is Able's 44-acre spot, located less than two miles from the Norfolk Southern-operated intermodal rail terminal in Taylor, Pa.
"The partnership with Dow leverages Kane's proximity to the nearby intermodal terminal to help Dow gain the economic and sustainability advantages of rail transportation, while still moving a high volume of product to market very quickly," Kane CEO Mike Gardner said in a release.
