Geotab telematics marketplace adds Route4Me application

Route4Me provides dynamic route optimization to complement Geotab's vehicle tracking platform.

Route optimization software provider Route4Me Inc. will now offer its product on the Geotab Marketplace, a collection of commercial telematics applications.

Route4Me's Dynamic Route Optimization platform uses big data, data science, and machine learning to optimize multidriver and multidestination routes, the Fort Lee, N.J.-based company said.

Route4Me's route sequencing and optimization software will now be integrated with Geotab Inc.'s real-time vehicle tracking platform. Together, the platforms will enable users to increase the number of deliveries per route while cutting mileage and drive time, Geotab CEO Neil Cawse said in a release.

Toronto-based Geotab provides open-platform fleet management solutions that help businesses manage their drivers and vehicles by extracting intelligence from real-time and historical trips data. Geotab makes both hardware, with its global positioning system (GPS) vehicle tracking device, and software, with its MyGeotab web-based fleet management platform.

The company complements those products with its Geotab Marketplace, a collection of about 200 third party applications that provide customers with a variety of commercial telematics add-ons. In addition to Route4Me, other products in the Geotab Marketplace include integrations ranging from TMW Systems Inc.'s transportation management software (TMS) to FourKites Inc.'s real-time load tracking service and others.

"Geotab and Route4Me have brought together two powerful solutions that drive value to help SMB through enterprise level businesses, such as last-mile delivery companies, field service, field marketing, and field sales organizations to get the combined benefit of real-time telematics and dynamic route optimization," Route4Me CEO Dan Khasis said in a release.

"Geotab's high-precision GPS tracking enables customers to stay synchronized, ensuring that the optimal dispatch sequence is safely and automatically accessible," Khasis said. "Furthermore, Geotab's rich vehicle data coupled with Route4Me's predictive analytics solution enables businesses to take action and optimize results."

Report: 65% of consumers made holiday returns this year

Supply chains continue to deal with a growing volume of returns following the holiday peak season, and 2024 was no exception. Recent survey data from product information management technology company Akeneo showed that 65% of shoppers made holiday returns this year, with most reporting that their experience played a large role in their reason for doing so.

Automation delivers results for high-end designer

When you get the chance to automate your distribution center, take it.

That's exactly what leaders at interior design house Thibaut Design did when they relocated operations from two New Jersey distribution centers (DCs) into a single facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2019. Moving to an "empty shell of a building," as Thibaut's Michael Fechter describes it, was the perfect time to switch from a manual picking system to an automated one—in this case, one that would be driven by voice-directed technology.

In search of the right WMS

IT projects can be daunting, especially when the project involves upgrading a warehouse management system (WMS) to support an expansive network of warehousing and logistics facilities. Global third-party logistics service provider (3PL) CJ Logistics experienced this first-hand recently, embarking on a WMS selection process that would both upgrade performance and enhance security for its U.S. business network.

The company was operating on three different platforms across more than 35 warehouse facilities and wanted to pare that down to help standardize operations, optimize costs, and make it easier to scale the business, according to CIO Sean Moore.
