Agile hires senior editor at DC Velocity; promotes long-time staffer at Supply Chain Quarterly

Ames, experienced editor, joins DCV; Lacefield promoted to senior editor at SCQ .

Agile Business Media, parent company of the supply chain management industry's two leading publications, said today that it has hired Benjamin B. Ames to be senior editor of the monthly magazine DC Velocity and that Susan Lacefield, a long-time staffer, has been promoted to senior editor of CSCMP's Supply Chain Quarterly.

"We are pleased that Ben Ames has agreed to join our staff, which was already the most seasoned group of journalists covering logistics, material handling and supply chain issues," said Peter Bradley, Agile's editorial director. "Ben brings more than 20 years' experience as a business-to-business writer and editor. He brings particular strengths in reporting and managing digital publications. Those qualities are especially important at Agile as we move aggressively to expand our content-delivery portfolio to readers and customers.

"I am also delighted to acknowledge Susan Lacefield's substantial contributions to the success of Supply Chain Quarterly," Bradley continued. "She has been with the magazine since we launched it in partnership with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) more than seven years ago. Her work has much to do with its growth and success."

Ames has covered a wide variety of business topics. As a senior editor for Design News, he reported on software and product design. As a correspondent for IDG News, he covered news about PCs, chips and smartphones for an online news service. Previously, he was a senior editor at PennWell Publishing, responsible for coverage of the magazine Military & Aerospace Electronics.

In her seven years with Agile, Lacefield has helped oversee content development for SCQ and, in addition, has written extensively on a number of logistics, supply chain and material handling topics for DC Velocity. Prior to joining Agile, she was part of the founding staff for Supply Chain Management Review.

DC Velocity covers distribution management, logistics, material handling and supply chain management. In addition to its print circulation of about 50,000 subscribers, it reaches a wide audience of logistics professionals through electronic newsletters, video products, web pages and a variety of other digital content.

CSCMP's Supply Chain Quarterly, published in partnership between Agile and CSCMP, is sent to all members of CSCMP. The magazine's articles, which offer thought leadership on global supply chain management issues, are written by the world's leading experts in the field.

Each of these ships has a handling capacity of up to 24,000 TEUs (20-foot containers) but are currently restricted at portions of Oakland’s Outer Harbor by aging wharves which were originally designed for smaller ships.

Averitt tracks three hurdles for international trade in 2025

Businesses engaged in international trade face three major supply chain hurdles as they head into 2025: the disruptions caused by Chinese New Year (CNY), the looming threat of potential tariffs on foreign-made products that could be imposed by the incoming Trump Administration, and the unresolved contract negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX), according to an analysis from trucking and logistics provider Averitt.

Each of those factors could lead to significant shipping delays, production slowdowns, and increased costs, Averitt said.

FTR: Trucking sector outlook is bright for a two-year horizon

The trucking freight market is still on course to rebound from a two-year recession despite stumbling in September, according to the latest assessment by transportation industry analysis group FTR.

Bloomington, Indiana-based FTR said its Trucking Conditions Index declined in September to -2.47 from -1.39 in August as weakness in the principal freight dynamics – freight rates, utilization, and volume – offset lower fuel costs and slightly less unfavorable financing costs.
