George W. Prest, who was executive chairman of the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA), has stepped down from that post to join the MHIA staff.

The group's board of governors announced on Monday that Prest, who had been director of business development at Unarco Material Handling, had been named MHIA's chief operating officer.

Prest had also served as president of the board of directors for the Material Handling Education Foundation. He has more than 30 years' experience in the material handling industry.

Prest will report to MHIA CEO John Nofsinger. MHIA says his duties will include managing MHIA's membership and trade event activities.

MHIA members include material handling and logistics equipment and systems manufacturers, integrators, consultants, publishers, and third-party logistics service providers. The association sponsors trade events, including ProMat 2011 and MODEX 2012, that showcase industry products and services.

Penske activates solar panels at three truck leasing sites

Penske Truck Leasing will activate rooftop solar-powered systems at three U.S. locations by 2025 that handle truck leasing, rental, and maintenance, and plans to add seven more sites as part of an initiative to boost efficiency, minimize energy costs, and reduce emissions.

Penske said today that its facility in Channahon, Illinois, is now fully operational, and is predominantly powered by an onsite photovoltaic (PV) solar system, expected to generate roughly 80% of the building's energy needs at 200 KW capacity. Cimcorp's new CEO sees growth in grocery and tire segments

Logistics automation systems integrator Cimcorp today named company insider Veli-Matti Hakala as its new CEO, saying he will cultivate growth in both the company and its clientele, specifically in the grocery retail and tire plant logistics sectors.
