  • Web savvy. Forbes.com has named GT Nexus a "Best of the Web" company in its annual business-to-business directory. This is the third straight year that GT Nexus has been included in the list, which is compiled from surveys of companies in 36 different industries. GT Nexus was named to the Logistics category for the on-demand software and services it delivers over the Internet. Clients use the software to manage complex global transportation, logistics and supply chain activity.
  • All papers are in order. Georgia-Pacific has honored Leicht Transfer and Storage with two awards. The company presented Leicht with its 2004 Service Award for outstanding service for Georgia-Pacific's retail business and also named it the winner of its Inventory Accuracy Award for outstanding inventory management. Georgia-Pacific selected Leicht for achieving a "very high level of control in all facets of its operations with a focus on getting it right on each and every transaction." In 2003, Leicht implemented an inventory management system that includes Pocket PCs, bar-code readers and radio frequency to track Georgia-Pacific products in the more than one million square feet of warehouse space Leicht dedicates to this client.
  • South American salute. Ryder Brazil has received the 2004 Volvo Logistics Award. The award is a joint initiative of the Center for Logistics Studies at Coppead/Federal University in Rio de Janeiro, Volvo Brazil and Tecnologistica magazine. Ryder Brazil was selected for overall excellence in logistics services and cargo transportation throughout Brazil. This is the second time Ryder has received this award.
  • Uplifting choice. Masco Corp., a manufacturer and supplier of home improvement and building products, has selected Crown Lift Trucks as a winner in its MASTAR (Masco Supplier Team Award Recognition) Awards Program. The award recognizes leadership, communication, commitment and cooperation among Masco's leading suppliers.

Supply chains continue to deal with a growing volume of returns following the holiday peak season, and 2024 was no exception. Recent survey data from product information management technology company Akeneo showed that 65% of shoppers made holiday returns this year, with most reporting that their experience played a large role in their reason for doing so.

The survey—which included information from more than 1,000 U.S. consumers gathered in January—provides insight into the main reasons consumers return products, generational differences in return and online shopping behaviors, and the steadily growing influence that sustainability has on consumers.

IT projects can be daunting, especially when the project involves upgrading a warehouse management system (WMS) to support an expansive network of warehousing and logistics facilities. Global third-party logistics service provider (3PL) CJ Logistics experienced this first-hand recently, embarking on a WMS selection process that would both upgrade performance and enhance security for its U.S. business network.

The company was operating on three different platforms across more than 35 warehouse facilities and wanted to pare that down to help standardize operations, optimize costs, and make it easier to scale the business, according to CIO Sean Moore.
