  • Michael Gonzalez has been appointed president and chief operating officer for HK Systems. In his new position, Gonzalez will have operational responsibility for the company's material handling and logistics software business, including sales and marketing, engineering, project management and manufacturing. Gonzalez has more than 30 years of industry experience, most recently as president and CEO of Interlake Material Handling.
  • Ozburn-Hessey Logistics has chosen Supreet Manchanda as its new executive vice president/chief technology and corporate development officer. He is responsible for information technology, merger and acquisition activity, integration and strategy.
  • Rapid Rack Industries, which manufactures shelving rack and workbenches, has hired Karen Roberson as its new marketing manager. She will coordinate all marketing activity for both of the company's brands—Rapid Rack and Gorilla Rack. In addition, the company has named Joey Tam as its new China manager of global procurement. He will manage Rapid Rack's direct import business.
  • Q4 Logistics, a company that designs and implements supply chain solutions, has added four members to its management team. Rod Wyles is the new vice president of technical services. James Jo is the new project director for the company's systems implementation practice group. And Leslie Hays and Jimmy Benefield have both been hired as senior managers of the company's operations improvement practice group.
  • Railinc, which provides real-time interline rail data, has named E. Allen West as its new president. West has been an executive with the company since 1999, serving most recently as vice president of business services.
  • Greatwide Logistics Services has added two new members to its board of directors. They are Daniel DiMaggio, who recently retired as CEO of UPS Logistics, and Betsy Atkins, an author and expert on corporate governance.
  • CombineNet, which supplies sourcing technologies for transportation services, has hired Paul Blalock as executive director of transportation solutions. Blalock has been in the transportation, logistics and supply chain industry for more than 16 years.
  • Joseph Abboud has been appointed director of ocean services for SEKO, an international freight forwarder and logistics service provider. Abboud, who has more than 20 years of experience in ocean transportation, will be responsible for product development, operations enhancements, ocean procurement and LCL and FCL revenue.
  • Randy Strutz has been promoted to chief commercial officer for Pacer International's retail third-party logistics segment, known as Pacer Global Logistics. Strutz will also retain his duties as president of Pacer Global Logistics' rail brokerage unit.
  • Transportation technology supplier Embarcadero Systems Corp. has appointed Richard Beedenbender as its new president. He brings experience in both shipping operations and technology to his new position.
  • Jae-Bok Young is the new senior account manager for MagneMotion, which develops material handling, transportation and assembly automation solutions using electromagnetic technology. He will lead the company's Korean and Pacific Rim efforts.
  • Jerry Levy has joined PWC Logistics as vice president of marketing. Levy has held sales and management positions for over 20 years at logistics and transportation companies, including Exel, Conrail and BAX Global.
  • Supply Chain Consultants, a software and consulting company, has announced two appointments to its management team. Sujit Singh is the company's new chief operating officer, and Jane Lee has been named vice president of supply chain solutions.
  • Tim Fedrigon has been named vice president, human resources for FKI Logistex North America. Fedrigon has worked in human resources for more than 22 years. Prior to joining FKI, he was director, human resources for Cabot Corp., a multinational specialty chemical manufacturing company.
  • Ozburn-Hessey Logistics has hired Denis Reilly as executive vice president, domestic transportation. His responsibilities include providing strategic direction for the company's growing transportation service offerings and leading the integration of OH Logistics' domestic transportation services and global freight forwarding operations.

Dexory raises $80 million for inventory-counting robots

The British logistics robot vendor Dexory this week said it has raised $80 million in venture funding to support an expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) powered features, grow its global team, and accelerate the deployment of its autonomous robots.

A “significant focus” continues to be on expanding across the U.S. market, where Dexory is live with customers in seven states and last month opened a U.S. headquarters in Nashville. The Series B will also enhance development and production facilities at its UK headquarters, the firm said.

Deutsche Bahn says sale of DB Schenker will cut debt, improve rail

German rail giant Deutsche Bahn AG yesterday said it will cut its debt and boost its focus on improving rail infrastructure thanks to its formal approval of the deal to sell its logistics subsidiary DB Schenker to the Danish transport and logistics group DSV for a total price of $16.3 billion.

Originally announced in September, the move will allow Deutsche Bahn to “fully focus on restructuring the rail infrastructure in Germany and providing climate-friendly passenger and freight transport operations in Germany and Europe,” Werner Gatzer, Chairman of the DB Supervisory Board, said in a release.

Reinke moves from TIA to IANA in top office

Transportation industry veteran Anne Reinke will become president & CEO of trade group the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) at the end of the year, stepping into the position from her previous post leading third party logistics (3PL) trade group the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), both organizations said today.

Reinke will take her new job upon the retirement of Joni Casey at the end of the year. Casey had announced in July that she would step down after 27 years at the helm of IANA.

Wreaths Across America seeks carriers for December mission

National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) kicked off its 2024 season this week with a call for volunteers. The group, which honors U.S. military veterans through a range of civic outreach programs, is seeking trucking companies and professional drivers to help deliver wreaths to cemeteries across the country for its annual wreath-laying ceremony, December 14.

“Wreaths Across America relies on the transportation industry to move the mission. The Honor Fleet, composed of dedicated carriers, professional drivers, and other transportation partners, guarantees the delivery of millions of sponsored veterans’ wreaths to their destination each year,” Courtney George, WAA’s director of trucking and industry relations, said in a statement Tuesday. “Transportation partners benefit from driver retention and recruitment, employee engagement, positive brand exposure, and the opportunity to give back to their community’s veterans and military families.”

Krish Nathan is the Americas CEO for SDI Element Logic, a provider of turnkey automation solutions and sortation systems. Nathan joined SDI Industries in 2000 and honed his project management and engineering expertise in developing and delivering complex material handling solutions. In 2014, he was appointed CEO, and in 2022, he led the search for a strategic partner that could expand SDI’s capabilities. This culminated in the acquisition of SDI by Element Logic, with SDI becoming the Americas branch of the company.

A native of the U.K., Nathan received his bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering from Coventry University and has studied executive leadership at Cranfield University.
