  • Uplifting announcement. Nissan Forklift Corp. has announced the latest winners of its Pinnacle Sales Award, which recognizes sales reps for consistently high levels of performance and professionalism. Honored were Don Hannan of M&L Industries in Metairie, La., and Brian Keeran of Hoj Engineering & Sales in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • RFID efforts rewarded. Consulting company Frost & Sullivan has honored LXE Inc. with its 2006 Product Line Strategy Leadership Award. LXE was chosen for its efforts in developing and commercializing mobile RFID systems.
  • Smokin'. Averitt Express has been named Truckload Carrier of the Year by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. The award recognizes Averitt's exceptional performance in on-time service, claims prevention, claims resolution and on-time activity reporting.
  • APenney saved. Ocean carrier APL and its sister company APL Logistics were jointly honored with JCPenney's 2006 Supply Chain Award. In presenting the award, JCPenney recognized the two companies for the close integration of their transportation and logistics services as well as for customer service and data accuracy.
  • Hail fromthe chief. The President's Award for Excellence in Exporting has gone to Mallory Alexander International Logistics. The prestigious award is presented to companies that have demonstrated excellence in exporting and have completed a rigorous review process by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Mallory Alexander's exports increased 97 percent between 2001 and 2005.
  • Best of the best. Dale Duncan, a driver for Conway Freight in Chula Vista, Calif., has been named the best truck driver in America. He gained the title of Grand Champion during competition at the National Truck Driving Championships held in New Orleans in August. Duncan bested 376 other contestants in navigating an obstacle course with his tractor and 42-foot tanker trailer. The competition also included a personal interview, a written test and a pre-trip inspection test.

Businesses are cautiously optimistic as peak holiday shipping season draws near, with many anticipating year-over-year sales increases as they continue to battle challenging supply chain conditions.

That’s according to the DHL 2024 Peak Season Shipping Survey, released today by express shipping service provider DHL Express U.S. The company surveyed small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to gauge their holiday business outlook compared to last year and found that a mix of optimism and “strategic caution” prevail ahead of this year’s peak.

Eight in 10 retail associates are concerned about the lack of technology deployed to spot safety threats or criminal activity on the job, according to a report from Zebra Technologies Corp.

That challenge is one of the reasons that fewer shoppers overall are satisfied with their shopping experiences lately, Lincolnshire, Illinois-based Zebra said in its “17th Annual Global Shopper Study.”th Annual Global Shopper Study.” While 85% of shoppers last year were satisfied with both the in-store and online experiences, only 81% in 2024 are satisfied with the in-store experience and just 79% with online shopping.

Cimcorp's new CEO sees growth in grocery and tire segments

Logistics automation systems integrator Cimcorp today named company insider Veli-Matti Hakala as its new CEO, saying he will cultivate growth in both the company and its clientele, specifically in the grocery retail and tire plant logistics sectors.

An eight-year veteran of the Georgia company, Hakala will begin his new role on January 1, when the current CEO, Tero Peltomäki, will retire after a long and noteworthy career, continuing as a member of the board of directors, Cimcorp said.

Although many shoppers will return to physical stores this holiday season, online shopping remains a driving force behind peak-season shipping challenges, especially when it comes to the last mile. Consumers still want fast, free shipping if they can get it—without any delays or disruptions to their holiday deliveries.
