Transport and logistics company XPO Logistics Inc. said today it would expand its visibility app for carriers to Europe this spring, saying the load procurement and productivity tool could help reduce empty miles, lower fuel waste, and improve customer service.
Greenwich, Conn.-based XPO first launched the smartphone app known as Drive XPO in North America in 2017. The app is the latest addition to a trend in applications throughout the industry that generate digital tracking information for freight in transit, in an effort to improve supply chain visibility for both shippers and carriers.
Available for both iOS and Android devices, the XPO app supports real-time visibility across transportation modes and integrates carrier operations with daily productivity tools by giving drivers a link to XPO's online Freight Optimizer platform, the company said.
Sharing that online data allows drivers to display load postings in real time, with details such as origin, destination, freight type, timing, and shipper, as well as special handling or equipment needs, XPO said. Carriers can also use the app en route to improve their efficiency in refueling, layovers, traffic avoidance, and other daily decisions, according to the firm.
