Joel D. Anderson, president and CEO of the International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA) since April 2006, said today he would retire next March.
Anderson made the announcement at the group's annual conference in Orlando, Fla. Anderson, who turns 65 in June, said he has been asked to continue on with IWLA in a consulting capacity on public policy issues. IWLA has more than 500 members, most of whom are third-party logistics providers (3PLs).
Anderson said he expects the group to begin a search for a successor this spring. He will likely step down prior to the group's 2014 annual conference.
Anderson joined IWLA after 28 years at the California Trucking Association (CTA), the last 13 as executive vice president and CEO. The CTA is the largest state entity of the American Trucking Associations. Prior to that, Anderson was an economist at the California Public Utilities Commission. He earned a B.A. in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Anderson pens a well-read blog for DC Velocity. He plans to continue posting for at least as long as he remains at IWLA, he said.
Anderson has also served on several national and state panels on transportation, logistics, and warehousing.
